¹ Al Mas'ūdī was born in Bagdad towards the close of the 3rd century A. D. and died in Egypt in 345 A.H. (956 A.D.). He visited Multan and Manṣūrah, *c.* A.H. 300 (A.D. 912) and Cambay *c.* 301 A. H.
