¹ *TA*, Trans., p. 14. *KZA*, pp. 79-80. This authority mentions in addition the payment of *Jizya* by *Nandā* as one of the conditions of peace. *TF*, Briggs' Trans., Vol. I, pp. 66-67. Ibn ul-Athīr does not mention any Indian invasions under the year 413 A.H. But under A.H. 414 he refers to Maḥmūd’s conquest of a strong Indian fort situated on the top of a high mountain containing sufficient water and provisions and 500 elephants. I am disposed to identify this fort with *Kālañjara*. But in that case we shall have to correct the *Kāmil*’s date by one year; see Vol. IX, p. 124.
