¹ The stone inscription was discovered in 1875-76. Kielhorn published a *résumé* of the contents of the inscription in *NKGWG*, 1903, pp. 300-03. It was fully edited by D. R. Sahni in 1925. *EI*, Vol. XVIII, pp. 121-37. It is not impossible that Kāñcanā was the wife 'of another king whose name has disappeared;' see *ibid*, p. 129.
