Āryaka (?) Avantivardhana (?) Viśākha (?) son (possibly king of Māhish- | only a matī . . . . . cow-boy) | | Avantisena Maṇiprabha king of Ujjain King of Kauśāmbī individual. The conclusion accords with the evidence of the *Aśokāvadāna* which places Kākavarṇin *after* Muṇḍa, and does not mention Kālāśoka.¹ The new king already served his apprenticeship in the art of government possibly at Benares and in the district of Gayā. The two most important events of his reign are the meeting of the second Buddhist Council at Vaiśālī, and the final transfer of the capital to Pāṭaliputra.
