Of these, Ballāla I succeeded his grandfather on the throne in 1100 (Bl 199), and his reign was a short one, but there are inscriptions of his up to 1106 (Cn 169). He is styled Tribhuvanamalla-Ballāla-Poysala, and visited Sosavūr in 1100 (Bl 199), but made Beluhūr (Bēlūr) his capital (Ng 32, Cm 160). The inscriptions tell us of his marrying in one day in 1103 the three beautiful and accomplished daughters of Mariyāne-daṇḍanāyaka. In 1104 he led an expedition against the Changālva king (Hn 161, 162), and together with his brothers repulsed an attack made by Jagaddēva (Śāntara king) on Dōrasamudra, capturing his treasury and the central ornament of his necklace (Bl 58, Ng 30).
