1287 we can infer that Seṭṭi-guṭṭas were persons of some importance. The Nāḍ-Seṭṭi-Guṭṭa Chalaḍaṅka Rāma Seṭṭi, along with a number of prominent persons of Bem-maṭṭanūru, in that year, caused to be written and gave to Perumāḷa Dēva, the famous general of the Hoysala king Narasimha, a gift of imposts (specified) for rebuilding the Kurubara Kāleya tank in Bemmaṭṭanūru.¹ Seṭṭi-guṭṭas also figure under the Yādava rulers. An inscription dated A.D. 1271, while praising Beṭṭūr, situated in the middle of the Pāṇḍya-dēśa, also speaks highly of its maneyars, seṭṭi-guṭṭas, gauḍas, and ūr-oḍeyars.²
