This inscription is dated Sālivāhana-śaka varuṣa 1487 neya Raktākshi- saṁvatsarada Māgha Su. 15 Saumyavāra Chandrōparāga This corresponds but for the weekday to A.D. 1565, January 16th, Tuesday. (Swamikannu, Ind. Eph., V, p. 332). The general opinion is that Rāma Rāja lost his life in the battle of Rākshasa-Taṅgaḍi on the 25th of January of the same year. If that is so, there is no reason to doubt the veracity of the inscription which will be one of the last records we have of that great ruler. B.A.S.
