Wilson recapitulates the stories of the foundation of Vijayanagara thus: "The foundation of the state of Vijayanagar is very generally admitted to have arisen out of the subversion of the Hindu governments of the Kakateeya and the Belāla Rājas by the incursions of the Mohamedans in the beginning of the fourteenth century.¹
