Negapatam was also a port of some significance. About it we have from the pen of Caesar Frederick: "From the Iland of Zeilan men are to goe with small ships of Negapatan, within the firme land, and seventie two miles off is a very great Citie, and very populous of Portuguals and Christians of the Countrey, and part Gentiles : it is a Countrey of small trade".⁴
