(b) The Mūḷbāgal record mentions Vidyāraṇya in A.D. 1344. The first family priest of the sons of Saṅgama was not a guru of the Śṛiṅgēri Maṭha. It was Kriyāśakti Āchārya who was the first royal preceptor of the founders of Vijayanagara;⁴ and in this important office he was succeeded by Vidyātīrtha-svāmi of Śringēri. Vidyātīrtha was the predecessor of Vidyāraṇya in the pontificate of Śringēri. Therefore, we cannot credit the statement that in A.D. 1344 Vidyāraṇya was the rāja-guru of the founders of the new Empire.
