Kauṭilya's regulations are more detailed in this connection. He lays down minute rules for the re-marriage of widows within their own gōtra. This applies to the wives of those who belong to the Śūdra, Vaiśya, Kshatriya, and Brahman castes.² There is, of course, consensus of opinion among the classical canonists on this subject.³
