The close relationship in which the State stood to the corporate activities of the people in this direction is also seen in another inscription of about A. D. 1270 which informs us that the *Mahāsāmanta*...Nārāṇamayya and the farmers and subjects of Gaṇḍāsi fixed as the water-rate for the lands watered from the old tank, for a *khaṇḍuga* of rice-land a *khaṇḍuga* of *bittuvaṭṭa*. And for the work of the tank they granted land (specified) under the tank.²
