The famous Regent Rāma Rāya also seems to have been well known for his musical attainments. This assertion is based on the fact that in an inscription dated A. D. 1589 he is said to have "had great pleasure in music on the *vīṇā* and singing."⁶ Further Rāmayāmātya, son of Timmamātya of the Toḍaramalla family, is described to have exhibited skill before Rāma Rāya, and to have written at the instance of the great Regent a book on music called Svaramēlakalānidhi.¹
