The war in Marwar forms only a small portion of the subject matter of this volume, which embraces the events of Northern India during 23 years, and therefore the sense of proportion and the lack of space have prevented me from including many interesting but minute details (which are evidently true) from the narrative supplied by Rao Gopal Singh. My theme is the history of the Delhi empire and not that of a provincial tribe.
