The only open rebellion against Aurangzib was the work of his favourite son, Muhammad AKBAR. This prince had lost his mother, Dilras Banu, when an infant of one month, and had naturally been treated by his father, and indeed by the entire royal family, with exceptional tenderness. His eldest sister, Zeb-un-nisa, in particular, doted on him and would have backed him in a war of succession.
