v4.c64.s10.35
On the 31st the besiegers began to retreat. The garrison sallied forth in a body and tried to seize the guns, but were beaten off. The retirement was bravely and skilfully conducted by the Viceroy in person; all the field pieces and ammunition were brought away, and the Portuguese had only a small skirmish which cost about 100 men on each side. Next day, the 1st of November, they reached Durbatà, where they were to embark for return to Goa.
