Shivaji repeatedly protested to the Goa Government against the conduct of the fugitive desais and even invaded the Portuguese territory of Bardes by way of reprisal. At last the Viceroy expelled the desais from Goa in May, 1668. [Pissurlencar, i. 12-25.] Then Lakham Savant submitted to Shivaji, pleading that he was of the same Bhonsle clan.
