So, at the end of March 1670 the Emperor had sent his Chamberlain (Khan-i-saman), Iftikhar Khan, to Aurangabad to investigate how matters really stood,— whether Muazzam was really bent on rebellion and what his relations with Shivaji were. This officer was now instructed to inquire into the Prince's charges against Dilir Khan.
