v3.c36.s8.10
The Macheri envoys, cursing the spineless double-dealing minister, went back to their master, who had no help but to seek peace at Mirzā Najaf's hands by agreeing to pay an indemnity of 33 lakhs in three years,—out of which three lakhs were paid down and security given for the balance of the first instalment (c. 6 July 1778.) The three lakhs with which the Macheri chief had bought off the imperial generalissimo, were a loan from the Jaipur treasury, and the Nāroka now tried to evade repayment of it.* Therefore, the Jaipur diwān Khushhāli Rām Bohrā called in the aid of Mirzā Najaf.
