v4.c56.s17.1
Inspired by the news of his enemy’s confusion, General Lake hurried his advance, and after marching 18 miles in one day, crossed the Hindan rivulet about five miles east of Patparganj, a large village six miles south of Delhi, but on the left bank of the Jamunā. Arrived here at 11 A.M. on the 11th of September, his tired soldiers set to pitching their camp, while their picquets advanced to reconnoitre. It was then suddenly discovered that the Maratha army from Delhi had taken post only a mile and a half from the new British camp.
