As a matter of fact, it is not easy to determine exactly the relations between Sundara Pāndya and Kōpperunjinga. If they were so friendly about A.D. 1253, it is difficult to see why Sundara Pāndya refused the tribute sent to him by the Kādava chieftain and attacked his capital with such fury and took possession of his kingdom and his army before finally restoring him to rule over his country. There is no doubt, however, that at this time Kōpperunjinga sustained a loss of status and became a subordinate tributary of the Pāndya emperor. Nearly fourteen years later the Kādava king is found remitting his tribute to the Pāndya king when he is camping in Chidambaram.²
