² Verse 19 of Pudukkottai plates has caused a difficulty about the duration of Ativīrarāma's reign, (*A.R.E.*, 1912, part ii, para 41), as this verse says that his brother Śrīvallabha was crowned after his death. But the reading *tridivam-gatē* on which the interpretation rests does not seem to be quite secure. It may be observed that Varatungarāma, the other donor in the plates, could not also have been ruling in Saka 1505, the date of the gift; in fact, lines 135-8 of the record show clearly that the regnal year quoted is that of Ativīrarāma himself. (*Contra* T. A. Gopinatha Rao, *op. cit.*, p. 57). Heras (*op. cit.*, pp. 285-6) explains the reference to the battle of Vallamprākāra in the plates. See also Satyanatha Aiyar, *Nayaks of Madura*, p. 103, *n.* 13. For Abhirāma Ativīrarāma, the son of Ativīrarāma Śrīvallabha, see *A.R.E.*, 1912, part ii, paras 40-1.
