c13.3
The dispersion of the Cōḷas in the period of their weakness, the poor and dispossessed among them going out in quest of fortune, is attested by the occurrence of names of princes and chieftains claiming Cōḷa connections in places as far removed from one another as Koḍumbāḷūr (Pudukottah), Śīyyāḷi (Shiyali), and Mālēpāḍu. The Pāṇḍyas of Uccangi, the Mauryas of Koṅkan, the Guttas of Guttal (Bombay), like the Cōḷas of the Telugu country, are examples of what may be styled dynastic drift in Indian History.¹
