Irugaiyan is said in Rājēndradēva's records to have fled with Āhavamalla, Vikramāditya and others from the battle of Muḍakkāṟu; his wife suffered mutilation in the Vēṅgī fight of Vīrarājēndra with Cāmuṇḍarāya just before the battle of Kūḍal-Śangamam. And Vīrarājēndra is said to have 'seen the back of the hostile Śaḷukki' at Muḍakkāṟu¹²⁰ before he became king, and there seems to be no other campaign narrated in Vīrarājēndra's inscriptions that will explain this last reference unless it be the battle of Kūḍal-Śangamam, described in such detail and said to have taken place before his second year. It is difficult to resist the conclusion, already suggested, that the Muḍakkāṟu of the records of Rājēndradēva and Rājamahēndra and the Kūḍal-Śangamam of the early records¹²¹ of Vīrarājēndra refer to one and the same engagement. The same event is apparently once at least mentioned under the name of Muḍakkāṟu in the inscriptions of Vīrarājēndra himself.
