An undated Sanskrit inscription from Cidambaram⁵⁴ states that Kulōttunga overcame five Pāṇḍya kings, set fire to the fortress of Kōṭṭāṟu (like Arjuna burning the Khāṇḍava forest), subdued the numerous forces of the Kēraḷas, and erected a pillar of victory on the sea-coast; thus it was that he reduced to obedience (*savidhikam akarot*) the rebellious group of vassal kings.
