done to them by the Cōḷa King. In flaming fury Vijayabāhu in the midst of all his courtiers had the Damiḷa envoys summoned and gave them the following message for the Cōḷa king. "Beyond ear-shot, on a lonely island in the midst of the ocean shall a trial of the strength of our arms take place in single combat, or, after arming the whole forces of thy kingdom and of not appear, the King dismissed his envoys, returned to Pulatthinagara and resided there a considerable time.'
