This account of the *Mahāvaṁsa* is on the face of it incomplete. It does not say how Vīra Pāṇḍya fared, or what happened to Kulaśēkhara, and seems deliberately to avoid stating that Lankāpura returned to Ceylon.⁹ One gains the impression that the Ceylonese author has drawn a veil over the ultimate failure of the effort after its initial success.
