The methods of collection, however, clearly included distraint and sale of land for arrears in payment; such sales were public in character and called after the king in whose reign they took place. In a Rājēndrapperuvilai, for instance, the assembly of Ariñjigai-caturvēdimangalam came by some land, as the three sons of Nārāyaṇa-kramavittan had migrated elsewhere and not paid the dues on the land for a period of about fifteen years.⁸⁵ Rājarāja's order against the *Kāṇi-uḍaiyār* (service-tenants) of particular classes of villages in the Cōḷa, Pāṇḍya and Toṇḍai countries, which has been discussed above, also sanctions confiscation and sale of land for arrears of *ūr-iḍu-varippāḍu*.
