2. An inscription of a.d. 1219 from Tuṟaiyūr (Trichinopoly district) mentions the *ūr-madil* (town-wall), and *pulaḳkaḍai-madil* (wall at the backs of houses), an indication that towns and houses were sometimes walled for safety. (701 of 1909).
