⁹ 114 of 1928 from Ayyampēṭṭai records that, early in the thirteenth century, there was unusual need for employing hired labour as the Veḷḷālas had dwindled in numbers owing to various causes, and that the daily wages (in paddy) of hired labour were mounting up.
