One curious instance of a contemporary composition of a *tiruppadiyam* beginning *Kōlanār-kuḻal* in praise of Viṣṇu at Tirumālpuram is recorded in an inscription of A.D. 995;²² such imitations of the canonical hymns seem however to have been quite rare, and unlike the later Śaiva compositions, have found no place in canonical literature.
