In the introductions to his edition of the Arthaśāstra and his English translation, Dr. Shama Sastri briefly set forth the evidence, internal and external, in favour of the work being accepted as a genuine production of Kauṭilya, the celebrated Chancellor of Chandragupta Maurya. That evidence is strong and remains unshaken in spite of everything that has been said to the contrary.
