It will be noticed from the above that Bengal, Kāmarūpa and Benares were the regions noted thus early as centres of the textile industry. The technical perfection of the industry is well illustrated by the fact that the Arthaśāstra distinguishes varieties of dukūla and kshauma according to their colour and process of manufacture, while those of patrorṇā are distinguished according to their material and colour.
