Cambridge Ancient History, VI, ch. XIII, esp. iv-vii. In his account of the battle of Jhelam, Tarn, following Baer, says that Alexander divided his cavalry force in order to draw the Indian cavalry, a weaker force than his own, to charge him and thus draw them away from the elephants (1928).
