The Satputes among modern Marathas were taken to be descendants of emigrants to Mahārāshtra from the South. A more satisfactory equation is that of Satiyaputa with Adiyamān (also Adigamān or Adigaimān), first suggested by K. G. Sesha Aiyar and supported on good linguistic grounds by T. Burrow.¹
