Though most of Bhavabhūti's work was done in Northern India, still, as he was born in Berar and is said to have had his education under Kumārila, it may not be wrong to include the great dramatist's name in this survey. Two of his dramas—the Mahāviracarita and Uttara-rāma-carita—are based on parts of the Rāma saga, while the third—Mālatīmādhava—is a work of the poet's imagination. He flourished at the end of the seventh century and the beginning of the eighth.
