Besides Basava himself, to whom six works of this type are attributed, and his nephew Chenna Basava, special mention must be made of two groups of highly honoured teachers and writers. First the ‘three paṇḍitas’—Mañcanna known as Śivalenka (bodyguard of Śiva), Śripati Pandita, and Mallikārjuna Paṇḍitārādhya; and the ‘five ācāryas’—Rēvaṇa Siddha or Rēṇukācārya of Kollipāka, Maruḷa Siddha of Kollāpura, Paṇḍitārādhya just mentioned as one of the three paṇḍitas, Ekōrāmi Tande, and Viśvēśvarācārya. They were either contemporaries of Basava or lived a little before or after him.
