Among the contemporaries of Tikkana must be noticed Ketana, author of Daśakumāracarita, a translation of Dandin's work which got him the title ‘Abhinava Dandi’, of a grammar called Andhra-bhāshā-bhūshaṇa, and of a translation of Vijñāneśvara's Mitāksharā; Mārana, a pupil of Tikkana, whose Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa became the basis of Peddana's Manucaritra; and Mañcana of Rajahmundry, author of Kēyūrabāhucaritra. Baddena, a Chola feudatory of Rudramadevi in the Shaṭsahasra country, wrote the Nitiśāstra-muktāvali, a treatise on politics in fifteen chapters, and probably also Sumati Śataka, a popular work of moral maxims.
