An eminent younger contemporary of Nannaya was Vēmulavāḍa Bhīma Kavi, associated by tradition with the Eastern Ganga emperor Anantavarman Choḍaganga (1078-1148). He was the author of *Kavijanāśraya*, a Telugu grammar, and *Bhīmēśvara Purāṇa* relating legends of the shrine of Bhīmēśvara at Dākṣhārāma. He seems to have written also *Rāghava-Pāṇḍavīya*, giving the story of both the *Rāmāyaṇa* and *Mahābhārata* together, the whole book being a sustained *double entendre*; it is no longer extant. There is much uncertainty about the life and works of Bhīma Kavi who has become a centre of many myths and miracles.
