Noteworthy in the remaining parts of the scheme are the two dhvajastambhas 51 feet high, one on each side of the nandi shrine, in themselves striking works of art, which mark an important stage in the evolution of the Southern pillar style. Lastly the sculptural decoration of the entire temple fits its parts admirably and forms the crowning glory of the monument. The vigorous representation of Rāvaṇa's attempt to uproot mount Kailāsa specially deserves to be noted.
