The Jain saint, who was a near relative of Bimbisāra's queen, the mother of Ajātasatru, possibly passed away towards the close of Ajātasatru's reign, while the death of Gautama Buddha occurred in the earlier years of the same reign. There is reason to believe that the latter event took place in or about the year 543 B. C.¹
