¹ All the experts are agreed that Krateros must have used the easy open route past Kalāt, through the Mulla (Mūla, Mulloh) Pass, along the modern caravan road. The Bolān and Quetta route did not come into use until recent times (Holdich, *The Gates of India*, 1910, p. 147; Sykes, *Ten Thousand Miles in Persia*, p. 49). The Mulla Pass is open all the year round (Masson, *Journeys*, ii, 120).
