He then returned to Patala, where he found the works of the new naval station well advanced, and proceeded to explore the eastern, or left, branch of the river. Near its mouth he passed through a large lake, apparently that now known as the Samārāh lake, to the west of Umarkōt, and again reached the sea-shore in about latitude 25°.¹ Having spent three days in reconnoitring the coast and arranging for the construction of wells, he returned to Patala.
