¹ Nepalese tradition applies the name *Kambōja-deśa* to Tibet (Foucher, *Iconographie bouddhique*, p. 134). But modern research indicates that the Kām̃bōjas spoke an Iranian tongue, and probably should be located in the Hindū Kush mountains (Grierson, *J. R. A. S.*, 1911, p. 802).
