Pulumāyi II, king No. 24, takes the name or title Sātakarṇi in the Kaṇheri inscription No. 11=Lüders 994, and appears to have married the daughter of the Great Satrap Rudradāman I, who twice defeated him before a. d. 130. Pulumāyi, as stated in the Purāṇas, was the son of Gautamīputra. It seems to me quite clear that this Pulumāyi II was the king defeated by Rudradāman I. If that view is correct, though it is not absolutely free from doubt, a firm chronological datum is obtained from which the dates of the dynasty can be reckoned approximately both backwards and forwards.
