¹ Doubts have been expressed as to the situation of the Mālwā (Mālava) referred to, which is quite uncertain. Tāranāth (Schiefner, p. 251) mentions a ‘Mālava in Prayāga’. Grahavarman may or may not have been lord of Kanauj. He was the son of Avantivarman, mentioned in an inscription from the Shāhābād District in South Bihār (Fleet, *Gupta Inscr.*, p. 215).
