The Gaharwār dynasty, subsequently known as Rāthōr,⁵ thus founded by Chandradeva, lasted until the subjugation of the Kanauj kingdom by Shihāb-ud-dīn, in A. D. 1194 (A. H. 590). Govindachandra, grandson of Chandradeva, enjoyed a long reign, which included the years A. D. 1104 and 1155. His numerous land grants and widely distributed coins prove that he succeeded to a large extent in restoring the glories of Kanauj, and in making himself a power of considerable importance.¹
