The Sena dynasty was founded by a chief named Sāmantadeva, who came from the Deccan. About the middle of the eleventh century he, or his son Hemantasena, founded a principality at Kāsīpurī, which has been identified with the modern Kasiārī in the Mayūrabhanja State. Neither of those chiefs seems to have acquired extensive power.
