The celebrated Sanskrit writer, Hemādri, popularly known as Hemāḍpant, flourished during the reigns of Rāmachandra and his predecessor, Mahādeva. He devoted himself chiefly to the systematic redaction of Hindu religious practices and observances, and with this object compiled important works upon Hindu sacred law. He is alleged, although erroneously, to have introduced a form of current script, the Moḍī, from Ceylon;² and has given a valuable historical sketch of his patrons' dynasty in the introduction to one of his books.
