¹ The Pāṇḍyas could never be completely subdued. They continued in a state of chronic revolt against the Choḷa yoke during the whole period of Choḷa supremacy. For about fifty years in the eleventh century Choḷa-Pāṇḍya kings governed the Pāṇḍya country, i. e. Choḷa princes acting apparently as viceroys under the Choḷa suzerain at Tanjore. The first Choḷa-Pāṇḍya was the son of Rājendra-Choḷa I (A. D. 1011–44). Two others are recorded, and there are inscriptions of two out of the three (K. V. Subrahmanya Aiyar, *Ep. Ind.*, xi (1914), p. 293). For further details, see *Epigraphy (G.O.*, No. 1035, Home (Education), Aug. 10, 1917, pp. 106, 107.
